December 4, 2018The error message that says “USB device malfunctioned and is not recognized” is a very common malfunction, you might have or will encounter while using your Windows system, and I know how frustrating it can be. This tutorial provides four solutions to fix this problem.
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a plug and play interface that allows the easy connection of your computer with 7external devices.
When you plug in a USB external device or a mobile phone to your PC, and you receive an error message saying “USB device malfunctioned and is not recognized” the USB will not show up on your computer. This will prevent you from accessing the data in the external device. In some cases, the error message comes in these forms. “One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.” or “The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.”
Here are four methods that will help you resolve this issue;
First Method: Fix USB Root Hub
Follow the steps below to do this;
- Go to settings> Click on devices
- In Devices, click on Connected Devices.
- Under related settings, Click on Device Manager.
- A new dialog will open, Locate Universal Serial Bus controllers and single click.
- Locate the USB Root Hub> Right click and select properties
- Go to Power Management tab and deselect the option saying “Allow the computer to turn off this device to safe power”.
- Now click OK to save your change.
Second Method: Change the USB selective Suspended Settings when USB device is not recognized.
- Right click on Windows icon> Click power options.
- A Choose or Customize a power plan interface will be displayed. Click Change plan setting.
- Click> Change advanced power settings in the Edit plan settings interface.
- In the Power settings interface, click on USB settings> Click on Selective suspend settings.
- Now, disable both on power and plugged in settings.
- Click Apply and OK to save settings.
Third Method: Re-Install USB device driver
- Go to settings> Click on
- In Devices, click on Connected Devices.
- Under related settings> Click on Device Manager.
- Locate Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right click on USB drivers.
- Uninstall all USB drivers one by one.
- Now Re-Start your PC. Windows USB drivers automatically re-install and solve corrupted devices problem.
Fourth Method: Remove Power Supply.
This is a very simple process, which might just be the solution you need.
- Disconnect your Power Supply Plug from the computer.
- Restart Your computer.
- Now, you can connect your USB device to the USB port.
- You can now reconnect the Power Supply Plug to your computer.
